Len O'Donnell serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for USAA Real Estate, the commercial real estate investment management arm of USAA, overseeing all operations of the company for the benefit of its 100+ investor partners. With over 30 years of experience in real estate, Len chairs the firm's Investment and Executive Committees and serves on its board of directors. He is Non-Executive Chairman of the board for Square Mile Capital Management and a director on the boards of other affiliated companies, such as Investors Diversified Realty and Katerra. Len is also an Investment Committee member for Square Mile Capital Management, Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund and Kandle Funds.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2011, Len was a Principal and Chief Investment Officer for Crimson Real Estate Fund, a real estate opportunity fund managed by Crimson Real Estate Advisors which specialized in value-added acquisitions and build-to-suit development.
Len earned his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Delaware.
Steve Waters serves as General Counsel for USAA Real Estate. Steve manages and supervises the company’s legal team, which is responsible for legal, risk, and compliance-related matters for the company and its over 250 affiliated entities. Frequently working with outside counsel, USAA Real Estate’s legal staff handles the negotiation and documentation of acquisition and disposition transactions, development and financing transactions, co-investment structuring, and leasing for the company’s sponsored portfolios, and provides legal advice to management in the home and regional offices. He chairs USAA Real Estate’s Risk Advisory Group and is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Before joining USAA Real Estate in 2011, Steve spent more than 36 years in private practice with the international law firm of Haynes and Boone, LLP. He was Chair of the firm’s real estate department and was a board member responsible for attorney development. He has been recognized by the prestigious law-rating Chambers USA as a leading lawyer in Real Estate and was elevated to top-tier Band 1 in 2011. He also was named the San Antonio Real Estate Lawyer of the Year in 2011 by Best Lawyers in America, the oldest and a highly-respected peer-review publication in the legal profession.
Steve received his B.A. in Economics from Southern Methodist University, where he graduated with high honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and his law degree from the University of Texas, where he graduated with honors.
Steve has been a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers since 1990, is on its Board of Governors and as the current President. He concluded his 2-year term as chair of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation in August 2015. Past positions include President of the Real Estate Council of San Antonio, Chair of the State Bar of Texas Business Law Section, Chair of the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Alamo Heights School Foundation.
Patrick (“Pat”) Irwin serves as Chief Administrative Officer for USAA Real Estate. Pat is responsible for the firm’s back-office functions, including Human Resources, Information Technology & Innovation, Process Excellence, Administration, and Risk Management. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Before joining USAA Real Estate in 1993, he was a Financial Application Support Manager with the Hewlett-Packard Company in Mountain View, California.
Pat earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio, with a concentration in Accounting Information Systems.
Bahram Motamedian serves as Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Managing Director of Portfolio Management for USAA Real Estate. Bahram is responsible for evaluating and initiating new investment strategies and vehicles as well as overseeing separately managed accounts, including investments made on behalf of and by USAA’s balance sheet. Bahram also oversees the company’s proprietary artificial intelligence platform and application of predictive analytics to address relative investment risk throughout the organization. Bahram chairs USAA Real Estate’s Strategy Advisory Group and is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Previously, Bahram was Managing Director with Hines in London with the responsibility of making real estate investments on behalf of Hines and its investors. He has over 20 years of experience in global real estate investment.
Bahram earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a former Trustee of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and a member of ULI, ICSC, NAREIT, and INREV.
Bruce Petersen serves as Executive Managing Director of Investments for USAA Real Estate. Bruce oversees USAA Real Estate's commercial investment activities to include acquisitions and joint ventures, as well as a national team of real estate professionals that secure development, acquisitions and mortgage loan opportunities. He also oversees dispositions and capital markets while sharing responsibility for COO functions with Pete McLaughlin. He chairs USAA Real Estate’s Operations Advisory Group and is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 1986, Bruce was responsible for leasing and marketing for the Great America Companies in San Antonio and was also an independent tenant representative broker with Grieshaber & Roberts Leasing Company specializing in office and industrial leasing.
Bruce received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Texas A&M University and is a current Advisory Board member for the Master of Real Estate program at the Texas A&M, Mays Business School. Bruce also holds the designation of Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM).
Peter (“Pete”) McLaughlin serves as Executive Managing Director for USAA Real Estate, overseeing the Asset Management, Property Operations and Treasury functions while sharing responsibility for COO functions with Bruce Petersen. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2006, Pete worked for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, where he managed a portion of the corporate bond portfolio. Prior to this role, Pete worked at BlackRock, having held positions in portfolio analytics, business development and portfolio management for the firm's fixed income division.
Pete received his Bachelor of Science from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, with concentrations in finance and economics.
Hailey Ghalib serves as Executive Managing Director for USAA Real Estate. Hailey leads USAA Real Estate’s multifamily, mixed-use and senior housing business and oversees its ground-up development program for housing. In this role since 2007, Hailey guides the company’s housing strategy and identifies, negotiates and executes portfolio transactions and development efforts across the United States. She is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Hailey received a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Texas at Austin; a Master of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley; and Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Houston. She is a licensed Architect in the State of Texas. Hailey is also an active member of the American Institute of Architects, and a member of the National Multi-Housing Council, serving on the Finance Advisory Committee.
David Buck serves as Executive Managing Director of Global Logistics Development for USAA Real Estate. David leads the company’s logistics development capital program and is responsible for global logistics development in the United States, Europe, Canada and Mexico. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees and is director on the board for an affiliated company, Mountpark Logistics EU Sarl.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 1996, David was Counsel/Department Head for the Southwest Region of the Resolution Trust Corporation in Dallas, Texas. David was responsible for directing all legal services in connection with the disposition and resolution of a multi-billion-dollar real estate loan portfolio.
David is a licensed attorney in the State of Texas and is a member of the State Bar of Texas. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University and received his law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law. David is also an active member of NAIOP.
James ("Jim") Hime serves as Global Head of Infrastructure for USAA Real Estate, where he leads a team in building a business that offers infrastructure investment advice to clients of the company. Prior to his current role, Jim functioned as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing USAA Real Estate’s asset management and dispositions functions. His remit also included responsibility for USAA Real Estate’s Capital Markets group, which sources and structures all debt financing on USAA Real Estate’s portfolio and which also advises USAA’s Life Insurance Company affiliate with respect to its senior mortgage investment program. Jim sits on the firm's Investment Committee. He is also a director on the board for an affiliated company, Investors Diversified Realty, and an Investment Committee member for Square Mile Capital Management and Admiral Capital Real Estate Fund.
Jim joined USAA Real Estate from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority ("ADIA"), one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, where he was employed for three years as Chief Financial Officer of the Real Estate and Infrastructure Department. While with ADIA, Jim was responsible for the legal, tax, and liquidity management requirements of the real estate department, including management of ADIA's existing and new debt arrangements, as well as monitoring treasury and cash balances across the portfolio.
Jim received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Texas and his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Texas, School of Law.
Will McIntosh serves as Global Head of Research for USAA Real Estate. Will is responsible for developing the commercial real estate investment strategy and manages the firm’s global research platform that informs and enhances the real estate investment process. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate, Will was Head of Global Research for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority’s (ADIA) real estate department, where he was responsible for developing ADIA’s global real estate investment strategy and built and led their real estate research platform. Prior work also included serving as Chief Investment Officer for Fund Evaluation Group (FEG) and Professor of Finance and Dean of the College of Business at the University of Cincinnati.
Will received his Ph.D. in Finance and Real Estate from the University of North Texas, his MBA with a concentration in Real Estate from Eastern Kentucky University, and his BS in Business Education from the same institution. He is a graduate of the School of Mortgage Banking of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America and served as a Faculty Fellow. He also completed the Management and Leadership in Education Program, Harvard Institute for Higher Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Will has served as President of the Real Estate Research Institute (RERI) and on the Board of Directors of the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF), the American Real Estate Society (ARES), and the International Real Estate Society (IRES). He has served on the Investor Council of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) and on the Advisory Boards of several university real estate centers. Will is a past President of the American Real Estate Society and is a Fellow of the Homer Hoyt Institute. He has served as a Co-Editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management and has published numerous articles in leading real estate professional and academic journals.
Scott Stuckman serves as Executive Managing Director of Global Investors Group for USAA Real Estate. Scott oversees the implementation and management of investment strategies for funds, separate account investments, investor relations, and capital raising activities. He is a member of the firm's Executive Committee and is a director on the board for an affiliated company, Investors Diversified Realty.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate, Scott served as Senior Managing Director for CB Richard Ellis Investors overseeing its U.S. Managed Accounts Group. Prior work also included serving as Vice President of Acquisitions for The RREEF Funds and Senior Vice President of Acquisitions at JMB Realty.
Scott earned his B.S. in Business and Public Administration from the University of Southern California. He has been a long-time active member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council (REIAC).
Edmund Donaldson serves as Executive Managing Director of Portfolio Management for USAA Real Estate. Edmund is the portfolio manager for the firm’s flagship, diversified open-end investment program. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Edmund joined USAA Real Estate from Hines, where he was a Senior Managing Director and member of their Capital Markets Group. He also served as Chief Investment Officer of the Hines U.S. Core Office Fund, Hines REIT and Hines Global REIT. During his 20 years with Hines, Edmund invested across all asset classes across the globe.
Edmund earned his Bachelor of Arts in Quantitative Economics and Decision Sciences from the University of California, San Diego, and Master of Business Administration from Rice University (Jones Graduate School of Business), where he currently serves on the Council of Overseers as well as the Real Estate Advisory Committee.
Dirk Mosis serves as Executive Managing Director of Development for USAA Real Estate. Dirk leads USAA Real Estate’s office development program as portfolio manager and also manages value-add investment programs for certain joint ventures. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2000, Dirk was with Chicago-based, Ferguson Partners, a firm which focuses on executive recruiting in the real estate industry. Prior to Ferguson, Dirk was with Trammell Crow Company for 15 years, beginning in Houston as an industrial leasing agent and then later in Baltimore as a Crow partner, where he developed both office and industrial assets.
Dirk received his undergraduate degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He also received an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Dirk is a member of a number of real estate associations to include NAIOP. He also serves on the Board of Governors for the TMI Episcopal School of Texas.
John Post serves as Senior Financial Officer for USAA Real Estate. John oversees the firm’s global finance and treasury functions and USAA Real Estate’s accounting operations in San Antonio, Dallas, and Amsterdam. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 1990, John was a Supervising Senior Auditor for KPMG Peat Marwick in San Antonio. At KPMG, John managed the financial audits of various real estate, banking, and manufacturing clients, including the audit of USAA Real Estate.
John earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Baylor University. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). John is also a member of the local, state and national chapters of C.P.A.’s as well as the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
