Len O'Donnell serves as President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as Principal, of USAA Real Estate Company, LLC, overseeing the company's day-to-day operations for the benefit of the investment portfolio and its 200+ investor partners. With over 30 years of experience in real estate, Len chairs the firm's Investment and Executive Committees and serves on its board of directors. He is a Non-Executive Chairman of the board for Square Mile Capital Management and a director on the boards of other affiliated companies, such as Investors Diversified Realty and Patrinely Group, and Mountpark. Len is also an Investment Committee member for Square Mile Capital Management and Kandle Funds.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2011, Len was a Principal and Chief Investment Officer for Crimson Real Estate Fund, a real estate opportunity fund managed by Crimson Real Estate Advisors which specialized in value-added acquisitions and build-to-suit development.
Len earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Delaware.
Peter (“Pete”) McLaughlin serves as Executive Managing Director and Co-Chief Operating Officer for USAA Real Estate, overseeing the Asset Management, Property Operations and Treasury functions while sharing responsibility for COO functions with Bruce Petersen. He is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2006, Pete worked for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, where he managed a portion of the corporate bond portfolio. Prior to this role, Pete worked at BlackRock, having held positions in portfolio analytics, business development and portfolio management for the firm's fixed income division.
Pete received his Bachelor of Science from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, with concentrations in finance and economics.
Bruce Petersen serves as Executive Managing Director of Investments and Co-Chief Operating Officer for USAA Real Estate. Bruce oversees USAA Real Estate's commercial investment activities to include acquisitions and joint ventures, as well as a national team of real estate professionals that secure development, acquisitions and mortgage loan opportunities. He also oversees dispositions and capital markets while sharing responsibility for COO functions with Pete McLaughlin. He maintains responsibility for two large scale horizontal developments - one in San Antonio called La Cantera and one in Phoenix called Norterra. He chairs USAA Real Estate’s Operations Advisory Group and is a member of the firm's Investment and Executive Committees.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 1986, Bruce was responsible for leasing and marketing for the Great America Companies in San Antonio and was also an independent tenant representative broker with Grieshaber & Roberts Leasing Company specializing in office and industrial leasing.
Bruce received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Texas A&M University and is a current Advisory Board member for the Master of Real Estate program in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M. Bruce also holds the designation of Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM).
Andra Purkalitis serves as Global Chief Compliance Officer for USAA Real Estate, responsible for regulatory compliance and risk management, and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Before joining USAA Real Estate in 2021, Ms. Purkalitis spent over 20 years in various business, legal, compliance and risk roles for several investment management companies. Most recently she was Global Chief Compliance Officer and Regulatory Counsel at Russell Investments, a global investment manager, where she was a key adviser and strategist to the business on regulatory, governance and compliance requirements, including public funds and privately offered alternative funds.
Prior to joining Russell Investments, Ms. Purkalitis was a consultant advising companies, including those that focus on accelerating innovation and transformative technology such as blockchain and digital assets. Earlier in her career, Ms. Purkalitis served as Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Legal Officer and Regional CEO for Aviva Investors Americas, a subsidiary of the U.K.-based financial services company; Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for Old Mutual Capital; and Executive Vice President and General Counsel for ICON Advisers. She also spent six years with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a Branch Chief and Enforcement Attorney.
Ms. Purkalitis received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Denver College of Law, where she was also an adjunct professor, teaching Securities Law and International Securities Regulation. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Nebraska.
Michael Boyd serves as General Counsel for USAA Real Estate. Michael manages and supervises the company’s legal team, which is responsible for legal, risk, and compliance-related matters for the company and its over 250 affiliated entities. Frequently working with outside counsel, USAA Real Estate’s legal staff handles the negotiation and documentation of acquisition and disposition transactions, development and financing transactions, co-investment structuring, and leasing for the company’s sponsored portfolios, and provides legal advice to management in the home and regional offices. He is also on the firm’s Executive Committee and a non-voting member of the Investment Committee.
Before joining USAA Real Estate in 2020, Michael spent more than 32 years in private practice with international law firm of Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP. He was the partner in charge of the Real Estate Group for HAK’s Houston office. He has been recognized by Chambers USA as a leading lawyer in Real Estate (2010-2020) and as one of the leading Real Estate lawyers in the United States by The US Legal 500 (2010-2019).
Michael received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas, and his law degree from Southern Methodist University. Michael is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association and the Houston Real Estate Lawyers Council.
Tana Gardner serves as Chief Financial Officer for USAA Real Estate. She is responsible for the Finance & Accounting team of approximately 70 people with oversight including corporate finance, performance reporting, fund accounting, tax, technical accounting and process accounting. She participates in the company’s Risk Committee overseeing all internal controls over financial reporting and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2020, Tana led the development, preconstruction and finance teams at a vertically integrated multifamily developer in Columbus, Ohio. There she was a member of the company’s Investment Committee and Operations Committee and oversaw the functions of development, risk management and financial reporting, planning & analysis. Tana began her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where she spent 14 years in the real estate assurance practice in Boston, New York and Cleveland, focused on public and private real estate and infrastructure investment companies, REITs and private equity funds.
Tana received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Southern California. She also serves on the AICPA/CIMA Construction and Real Estate Conference committee and is a NCREIF Member and contributor to the NCREIF Performance Committee and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Ryan Krauch serves as Executive Managing Director at USAA Real Estate Company. Ryan leads the development of key strategic initiatives and relationships. He is a member of the firm's Investment Committee.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2021, Ryan served as one of the original principals at Mesa West Capital. Prior to this role, Ryan headed the joint venture equity acquisitions platform for Somera Capital Management.
Ryan earned his Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Dartmouth College. Ryan is the Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM) and he is a board member for the Defined Contribution Real Estate Council (DCREC). Ryan is actively involved in the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the Young President’s Organization (YPO).
Edmund Donaldson serves as Executive Managing Director of Portfolio Management for USAA Real Estate. Edmund is the portfolio manager for the firm’s flagship, diversified open-end investment program. He is a member of the firm's Investment Committee.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 2014, Edmund worked for Hines where he was a Senior Managing Director and member of their capital markets group. He also served as Chief Investment Officer of the Hines U.S. Core Office Fund, Hines REIT and Hines Global REIT. During his 20 years with Hines, Edmund invested across all asset classes across the globe.
Edmund earned his Bachelor of Arts in Quantitative Economics and Decision Sciences from the University of California, San Diego, and Master of Business Administration from Rice University (Jones Graduate School of Business), where he currently serves on the Council of Overseers as well as the Real Estate Advisory Committee.
Hailey Ghalib serves as Executive Managing Director and Head of Housing Investment and Development for USAA Real Estate. Hailey leads USAA Real Estate’s multifamily, mixed-use and senior housing business and oversees its ground-up development program for housing. With USAA Real Estate since 2007, Hailey guides the company’s housing strategy and identifies, negotiates and executes portfolio transactions and development efforts across the United States. She is a member of the firm's Investment Committee.
Hailey received a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Texas at Austin; a Master of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley; and Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Houston. She is a licensed Architect in the State of Texas. Hailey is also an active member of the American Institute of Architects, and a member of the National Multi-Housing Council, serving on the Finance Advisory Committee.
David Buck serves as Executive Managing Director and Global Head of Industrial for USAA Real Estate. David leads the company’s logistics development capital program and is responsible for global logistics development in the United States, Europe, Canada and Mexico. He is a non-voting member of the firm's Investment Committee and is director on the board for an affiliated company, Mountpark Logistics EU Sarl.
Prior to joining USAA Real Estate in 1996, David was Counsel/Department Head for the Southwest Region of the Resolution Trust Corporation in Dallas, Texas. David was responsible for directing all legal services in connection with the disposition and resolution of a multi-billion-dollar real estate loan portfolio.
David is a licensed attorney in the State of Texas and is a member of the State Bar of Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University and received his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law. David is also an active member of NAIOP.
